Village Temple

The village temple, known as “Jamdaha Thakurwari”, or “Radha Patit Pavan Mandir”, is one of the oldest temples in the area. The royal family of Munger, in Bihar, founded the temple at the beginning of the 20th century. It has a beautiful agricultural garden and a quite and small guesthouse. The water there is freshly drinkable, the fruits and vegetables very tasteful, and the temple runs primarily from donations and agricultural self-production.

The local village temple is an important socio-cultural centre in the small village (festivals, social gatherings, weddings etc.) and accommodates visitors and volunteers, who come to live in Jamdaha and who participate in the PremSEVA projects. Over the last three years our project has established a very good relationship and collaboration with the village temple.

In India, village temples are seen as cultural and social centers, where people gather regularly and particularly during festival seasons. At festival times in the village, PremSEVA participates in organizing feasts and social activities for the villagers.

PremSEVA is using the guesthouse facilities of the temple for some of its project activities and for volunteer accommodation (i.e. classroom, kitchen, housing).

Restoration of the temple
Some years ago, due to lack of maintenance and funds, the temple was in a bad condition. Since 2009 PremSEVA has been helping the village with restoring the temple. As the restoration is going on, people from Jamdaha as well as from nearby villages have now begun gathering on regular occasions. The restoration also gives much-needed labor work to the villagers.
